The Royal College of St. Peter in Westminster, almost always known as Westminster School, is one of Britain's most expensive independent schools, with yearly fees of over £25,000, higher than the average salary in Britain. It has one of the highest Oxbridge acceptance rate of any secondary school or college. Located in the precincts of Westminster Abbey in central London, and with a history stretching back beyond the 12th century, the school's notable alumni include Ben Jonson, Robert Hooke, Christopher Wren, John Locke, Jeremy Bentham, and A. A. Milne as well as seven British Prime Ministers. The school traditionally encourages independent and individual thinking. Boys are admitted to the Under School at age seven, and to the main school at age thirteen; girls are admitted only at sixteen. The school has around 750 pupils; around a third are boarders, of whom most go home for the weekends, after Saturday morning school. It is one of the original nine English public schools as defined by the Public Schools Act 1868.

The Good Schools Guide says of the school: "For the right boy or girl, simply the best," also mentioning that the atmosphere is "famously relaxed and liberal as has been felt appropriate in a school which thrives on the individuality of its members." [10]
